Elena Durán and the Orchestra of Baja California Perform in Support of Environmental Education

On Thursday, September 12th, the stunning concert “México de Mi Corazón” graced the open-air stage of the State Center for the Arts in Tecate (CEART Tecate), offering a night full of music and inspiration. Presented by Fundación La Puerta, in collaboration with CANACINTRA Tecate (the National Chamber of the Transformation Industry in Tecate) and the Baja California Ministry of Culture, the event was held with the purpose of raising funds to continue Fundación long-standing environmental education programs. These free programs have served the community for decades, enriching environmental awareness and inspiring new generations to become stewards of the planet.

Maestro Jacob Tapia, guest conductor of the Baja California Orchestra and Elena Durán, distinguished soloist and international flutist.

The concert, led by the internationally acclaimed flautist Elena Durán and the talented Orchestra of Baja California, transported the audience through a range of iconic Mexican melodies. Masterpieces such as “La Culebra,” “100 Años,” and “Amorcito Corazón” were performed with remarkable passion, filling the night air with both nostalgia and cultural pride.

Elena Durán, born to Mexican parents in Oakland, California, has long been celebrated as a cultural ambassador, sharing her musical gifts around the world. For over 20 years, she has been a cherished figure in Mexico City and a beloved member of the Rancho La Puerta family. Her performance, alongside the masterful direction of Maestro Jacob Tapia and the Baja California Orchestra, was the perfect homage to the rich tradition of Mexican music.

As much as it was a night of musical celebration, the concert carried a deeper meaning. The funds raised will support Fundación La Puerta’s environmental education programs, which are offered at no cost to local schools. These workshops, developed to foster a deep connection to nature, have become an essential part of the community’s education. Attendees were also invited to make voluntary donations at the Fundación La Puerta booth after the event, further contributing to this noble cause.

The night was made possible thanks to the collaboration between Fundación La Puerta, CANACINTRA Tecate, the Ministry of Culture of Baja California, and the support of many community partners and sponsors. Their contributions not only brought the beauty of music to life but also made a lasting impact on the future of Tecate’s environmental education.
